The groundbreaking documentary Go for Rural Entrepreneurship made its theatrical debut in Beijing this Thursday, offering audiences an intimate look at China’s rural transformation through the eyes of four determined young entrepreneurs.

This 106-minute cinematic journey, filmed over a year in Zengcheng district of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, captures remarkable stories of agricultural innovation and rural revitalization. The film is scheduled for nationwide release on June 1, appearing in approximately 12,000 theaters across the country.
Through compelling visuals and personal narratives, the documentary showcases extraordinary transformations: barren wastelands reborn as fertile farmland producing abundant harvests, crumbling rural dwellings reinvented as charming agro-tourism destinations, and traditional family farms evolving into educational centers for sustainable agriculture.
The film doesn’t shy away from the challenges either, documenting how these modern pioneers weathered typhoons and overcame numerous obstacles in their quest to revitalize rural communities.
One of the featured entrepreneurs, Shen Yanfen, left her corporate job in Shenzhen in 2020 to take over her father’s agricultural machinery cooperative. Her innovative approach has helped local farmers reclaim abandoned land for rice cultivation while pioneering digital sales channels through livestream e-commerce.
“The familiar scent of fertile soil has nurtured new dreams and possibilities,” Shen shared emotionally during the premiere event, reflecting on her journey from urban professional to agricultural innovator.
Zhai Cuixia, an official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, praised the documentary’s potential to inspire action: “This film serves as a vital bridge – transforming awareness into engagement and sparking a grassroots movement for rural revitalization across our nation’s fertile lands of opportunity.”
By documenting these real-life stories of perseverance and innovation, Go for Rural Entrepreneurship aims to reshape perceptions about agricultural careers while highlighting the crucial role of youth in ensuring food security and sustainable rural development.
