CD Projekt Red has initiated a conversation regarding its PlayStation 5 Unreal Engine 5 demonstration, stating that achieving 60FPS for The Witcher 4 on the Xbox Series S will be an uphill battle.
In a recent Digital Foundry interview, CD Projekt Red emphasized its commitment to avoiding past performance pitfalls, reminiscent of those seen in Cyberpunk 2077. To ensure 60FPS stability, the studio has adopted a console-first approach for The Witcher 4. However, the team has acknowledged that the Xbox Series S presents unique challenges.

When it comes to the Xbox Series S and the 60FPS benchmark, the studio candidly stated, “I will say that 60 FPS will definitely be extremely challenging on the Series S; this is something that we need to figure out.”
At present, CD Projekt Red has yet to devise a solution for 60FPS on the Xbox Series S for The Witcher 4. Whether the studio will successfully overcome this hurdle remains to be seen.
In early June, CD Projekt Red showcased a tech demo highlighting what to expect from The Witcher 4 in Unreal Engine. However, the studio later clarified that the gameplay displayed was not genuine The Witcher 4 content but rather a means to exhibit the capabilities of Unreal Engine. The timeline for further details on The Witcher 4 remains uncertain, with the game likely still years away from release.
